Financial Knowledge & Skills
We believe that financial education is most effective when it combines core curriculum concepts with real-life scenarios. Our resources are all designed to equip parents and children with essential financial knowledge whilst fostering an environment for open discussions about money at home.
By incorporating relatable examples and practical applciations, we help you encourage kids to explore topics like budgeting, saving and investing in a way that feels relevant to their every day lives. This holistic approach not only builds a solid understanding of financial principles but also empowers families to engage in meaningul conversations about money, nurturing a culture of financial responsibility and confidence.
Learning & Development Pyschology
We understand that fostering positive behvaiours in children is rooted in a deep understanding of psychology. As parents ourselves we recognise that the way we encourage our kids to embrace new habits and values is pivotal to their growth. Our approach to teaching finance and money concepts mirrors this philosophy. We integrate real life scenarios and psychological principles into our curriculum, making learning relatable and impactful. By considering factors like peer pressure and emotional responses, we create engaging activities that resonate with children. This tailored approach not only helps them grasp essential fiannce skills but also empowers them to make informed desicions, setting the foundation for a financially literate and responsible future.
How We Work
Our Approach
01. Basic Financial Knowledge
Understanding what money is, how we earn income, the financial system, and about financial products and how they can be used to benefit you. Basic financial knowledge is our cornerstone of learning.
02. Money Management Skills
Practical lessons on what to do with money when you recieve it. How to budget, how to forward plan, how to save and invest and work towards financial goals. Understanding credit and how to use it responsibly.
03. Behaviours, Pscyhology & Mindset
Our resources build in how our own behaviours, pyschology and mindset can impact our financial decisions. How marketing and other outside influences can impact our spending patterns. How to build positive habits which will serve us well financially.
04. Practical, Actionable Steps
We take each of our core learning pillars above, and combine then into simple, actionable steps, activities, age appropriate learning goals and conversation starters. All packaged in small bite size pieces of learning which you can consume at your own pace, day to day, in real life.

Emma Golightly
Founder & Lead Financial Education Instructor
I’m Emma, the founder of Pounds and Piggy Banks. As a parent and a finance professional, I founded Pounds & Piggy Banks to empower parents with the financial confidence to teach their children about money and finance at home.
We never learnt it at school, and our kids face the same challenge – so whilst the education system catches up, I’ve dedicated my time outside of my day job to helping plug that gap.
With over 20 years experience in the Financial Services, I am passionate about people having an opportunity to learn about money. I hold degrees in both Financial Services and Communications, and I am a certified Financial Education Instructor and have delivered financial literacy lessons in schools.
As a parent of three – two kids aged 2 and 9, and a stepchild from a previous relationship who is now 22 – I understand the unique challenges families face when it comes to discussing money with children of all ages.
Despite a career in finance, like most people my age, I had no real financial education before working at a bank. My first role was a steep learning curve, and it took years to overcome ingrained habits. This journey has inspired me to help my children grasp crucial money concepts early and to support other parents to do the same, leading to the creation of Pounds and Piggy Banks.
Recognising the lack of financial education in schools, I saw the need to address this gap at home. With children forming money habits as early as 7 years old, I established Pounds & Piggy Banks to empower parents with the confidence and knowledge they missed in school themselves so they can confidently introduce money to their children at home in everyday real life scenarios.
